Ousmane Sembene’s Faat Kine
A story about a independent single mother who reflects on her life through the lens of her own mother and her daughter as well.
Personally, I feel that there are distinct struggle in gender power that the film exemplifies. Even though Sembene considers the film to be a tribute to the “everyday heroism of African women,” there are definite struggles in juggling the characterization of women overall within the film. But what do I know? I’m just a simple and humble college student.
